Microsoft is committed to providing bug fixes and security fixes for each LTSC version over a 10-year period. Instead of releasing feature updates every six months, Microsoft releases a new version of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC every 2-3 years. Companies can optionally install these new versions of LTSC as an in-place upgrade on the machine – according to which Microsoft’s licensing terms will be reviewed at a later time (for software maintenance contracts only, New upgrades covered – in other cases, a new license purchased).

Microsoft has planned LTSC versions for instances where nothing changes for Windows 10 (eg in appliances, ATMs, etc.), but not for office environments. In such environments, feature updates for new LTSC versions are not offered for a 10-year lifecycle, which is the deal.
