Arcanist Lux: S-tier
Lux is in quite a healthy spot right now with other comps being nerfed.
Team Comp Description:
This comp looks to build around the Arcanist trait with many strong magic damage units like Lux, Vex, and Viktor. Vex is a target to 3 star, but we recommend simply rolling for it at level 8 instead of slow rolling at level 7.
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have a lot of magic damage items. Having an Arcanist Emblem or an Arcanist Heart will also be very strong as this comp can reach 6 Arcanist with one of these.
Syndicate Assassins: S-tier
This comp leans a bit more into using Shaco as a carry rather than going all in for Akali.
Team Comp Description:
This comp uses the Syndicate and Assassin trait to try and burst down enemy backlines with carries like Shaco and Akali. They specialize in attack and magic damage respectively, making it easy to itemize for both of them.
[Best TFT Comps Syndicate Assassins]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you find Assassins early and find good items for them. Namely, Infinity Edge.
Spice Girls: S-tier
This is our new take on the best Fiora comp for the meta.
Team Comp Description:
This comp focuses on three different strong carries. Fiora and Orianna are your main damage carries, while Lissandra will be there for a bit of damage but mostly utility. The items in this comp are also very flexible, so you shouldn’t worry too much about starting items.
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have good items for Fiora. The other items are easy to build into any comp, so decide based on if you have good Fiora items or not.
X-Men: S-tier
Cho buffs along with other nerfs bring this comp back up.
Team Comp Description:
This comp revolves around the Mutant trait and Malzahar as the main carry. We recommend using this comp with these Mutations (in order): Metamorphosis, Voracious Appetite.
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have a good Mutant start and the bonus is one of the three listed above. Having good items is also a good indication. (Tears)
Pog’Maw: S-tier
With Cho’Gath likely to return to the meta, this comp will likely come back as well.
Team Comp Description:
This comp looks to slow roll for Kog’Maw as the main carry and uses the Protector units to provide a frontline for him. Kog’Maw’s ability helps him shred through tanks, so this can be a good team comp to use against Colossus or Bruiser team comps.
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have a good start with the slow roll units like Kassadin, Graves, Garen, and Kog’Maw. Having a good mutation like Metamorphosis or Voracious Appetite will also be ideal for this comp.
Bruiser Crab: S-tier
Urgots fits a lot of characteristics of a strong carry. Good damage, ranged, tanky, sustain, etc.
Team Comp Description:
This comp uses Urgot as the main carry and has Bruisers to be a strong frontline.
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have a good Bruiser start and good items for Urgot.
Four: S-tier
We think Jhin will be a solid pick this next patch mainly due to other comps being nerfed while this comp remaining largely untouched.
Team Comp Description:
This comp follows a simple ranged AD carry formula that we’ve seen set after set. Orianna can be your magic damage carry if you have a Sniper Emblem for her. Otherwise you will want to put in Miss Fortune or have something like Sniper Heart.
When to make:
This comp doesn’t use any large vertical trait, so you can play this comp almost any game with any start. Focus on getting good items for Jhin and picking up strong utility units when you find them.
Talon Reroll: S-tier
Talon has emerged as the new stand out carry of the patch so far. With this meta shift, more reroll comps are popping up and invading the meta.
Team Comp Description:
This comp revolves around Talon and slow rolling for 3 stars at level 6. You can look to three star units like Talon, Ekko, or even Samira if you can afford to. Sion is the main tank, but you can simply use Swain before finding him.
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have good Talon items and a decent start with Imperial units.
7 Innovator: S-tier
With other comps being nerfed, this comp brings a level of consistency compared to other comps. (Assuming you hit Innovator Heart/Emblem)
Team Comp Description:
This comp looks to get 7 Innovator by either having a Hextech Augment that provides Innovator, or by getting a Tome of Traits to get an Innovator Emblem. This allows you to have a very high health Dragon that provides insane amounts of utility and frontline. Jayce is one carry that does amazing with tanky items, while Seraphine is the backline carry with magic damage items.
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have an Innovator Heart/Soul or an Innovator Emblem.
Challenger Yone: A-tier
Fiora seems to be preferred over Yone, but he can still carry games as well.
Team Comp Description:
The point of this comp is to burst down the enemy team as quick as possible with all of the Challenger units. Yone is the main carry who can often burst down enemy backlines with his ability.
[Best TFT Comps Challenger Yone]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have good Yone items and can transition with Challengers easily.
Trundle Reroll: A-tier
Trundle saw a slight come back in the meta. He isn’t very consistent, and can be outscaled, but the comp still can succeed.
Team Comp Description:
This comp is a level 6 slow roll comp that looks to itemize around Trundle, Vi, and Ekko. You can reroll for more units like Ezreal, Leona, and Blitzcrank, but we recommend going for more levels after hitting your core of 3 star units.
[Best TFT Comps Trundle Reroll]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you find Trundle quickly and have good items for him. You should also go for this comp if other people are slow rolling for 2 cost units like Katarina or Kog’Maw.
Samira Reroll: A-tier
With Talon being in a strong spot, Samira comes in as a strong alternative if you hit more Samiras.
Team Comp Description:
This comp rerolls for Samira, and is very close to a Talon reroll comp. If you originally planned on playing Talon, you can pivot into this comp if you find more Samira’s.
[Best TFT Comps Samira Reroll]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you find a lot of copies of Samira.
Heimer Reroll: A-tier
With the buffs to Heimerdinger’s range, he’s becoming a more popular slow roll carry.
Team Comp Description:
This comp looks to 3 star Heimerdinger as the main carry. You can do so by slow rolling at level 7 or by hopefully finding him at level 8. Using things like Yordles in the early game will also help find more copies of Heimerdinger.
[Best TFT Comps Heimer Reroll]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have good items for Heimerdinger and find him early.
Chalice Orianna: A-tier
With the slight buff to Chalice, we’re seeing it being used with lesser damage carries like Orianna and Seraphine. This comp is decent, but the Innovator version seems to be stronger.
Team Comp Description:
This comp uses Chalice of Power to stack up Ability Power on your three backline units. Orianna and Seraphine are the main damage carries, while Janna is there to provide utility.
[Best TFT Comps Chalice Orianna]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you can make Chalice early or have a lot of Tears.
Stand United Fiora: A-tier
Fiora has been becoming more and more popular as a main carry, and she’s no slouch.
Team Comp Description:
As the name suggests, this comp revolves around Fiora as the main carry and surrounds her with a variety of traits. This results in a powerful team with lots of utility to empower Fiora.
[Best TFT Comps Stand United Fiora]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have good items for Fiora, or find her early / are able to 2 star her easily.
Twitch Reroll: A-tier
Yet another reroll comp is becoming more popular this patch.
Team Comp Description:
This comp slow rolls for Twitch 3 as the main carry, and caps out if you are able to get an Assassin Emblem for Lissandra. This comp is great against comps that have weak backline carries for Twitch to easily take out.
[Best TFT Comps Twitch Reroll]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have good items for Twitch and find a lot of copies of Twitch and Singed early game.
Socialite and Friends: A-tier
Everyone tried to force this comp last patch. The comp is still very strong, assuming you can reach it.
Team Comp Description:
This comp looks to build around Kai’Sa as your main carry. Since Kai’Sa is a 5-cost unit, you will need to build a very strong economy to be able to find her quickly. Going Fast 8 either by win streaking or lose streaking is highly advised. Kai’Sa can also be replaced by other carries like Viktor or Akali as well. Viktor Items: Spear of Shojin, Archangel’s Staff, Guardian Angel. Akali Items: Archangel’s Staff, Guardian Angel, Infinity Edge.
[Best TFT Comps Socialite and Friends]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have good items for Kai’Sa/Akali/Viktor and have a good economy built up to roll at level 8 for 5-cost units.
Adrenaline Rush Cho: A-tier
Just another version of Mutant Cho’Gath.
Team Comp Description:
This comp itemizes Cho’Gath as a damage carry by using the Adrenaline Rush Mutant Bonus to give extra attacks to Mutants. This turns Cho’Gath into a fast auto attacking monster.
[Best TFT Comps Adrenaline Rush Cho]
When to make:
Go for this comp if the Mutant Bonus is Adrenaline Rush.
Candyland Returns: A-tier
Yordles have shown some promise, but nothing too crazy yet.
Team Comp Description:
This comp uses the Yordle trait and slow rolls for Poppy and Tristana as the main carries. Poppy is the core carry of the comp as she will tank extremely well. Tristana is the main backline carry, and you should prioritize slow rolling for her at level 6. The Yordle trait will give you more Yordles to 3 star Poppy, so level 6 slow rolling is ideal.
[Best TFT Comps Candyland Returns]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you have a good start with Yordles and defensive items for Poppy.
Assassin Samira: A-tier
Samira is an interesting carry for this patch. This comp saw very little play, but a newer and better Imperial version may come up this patch.
Team Comp Description:
This comp uses Assassin Emblems to create an Assassin team built around Samira and Imperial. With two Assassin Emblems, you can also make Quinn an Assassin, but you can simply wait until level 8 to put in a 4th Assassin as well.
[Best TFT Comps Assassin Samira]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you can get Assassin Emblem and good items for Samira.
Katarina Reroll: B-tier
This comp is probably dead, but we’ll leave it just in case.
Team Comp Description:
This slow roll comp focuses on Katarina as the main carry and looks to 3 star as many units as possible. The comp slow rolls at level 6 for everyone except for Taric, and then goes to level 7 to add in Taric for a free Socialite buff.
[Best TFT Comps Katarina Reroll]
When to make:
Go for this comp if you find a good start with Assassins / Katarina and have solid items for Katarina.
Warweek: A-tier
Warwick is another slow roll carry that is less affected by this patch.
Team Comp Description:
This comp slow rolls for Warwick 3 as the main carry and surrounds him with Chemtech units. You can slow roll for multiple units like Warwick, Zac, Lissandra, and even Vi.
When to make:
Go for this comp if you find Warwicks early and have decent items for him.
Viktor Go Brrrr: B-tier
This comp uses Viktor as the main magic damage carry and just a bunch of other strong units.
Team Comp Description:
This comp revolves around the Chemtech trait, but looks to itemize Viktor as the main carry. He will deal solid magic damage while also reducing armor for other allies to deal more damage with auto attacks.
[Best TFT Comps Viktor Go Brrrr]
When to make:
Go for this comp when your running Chemtechs and have good magic damage items for Viktor.
Methodology
We evaluate compositions based on 3 key factors:
- Consistency: How well does this comp perform from game to game and how reliably can you build towards it given a reasonable start?
- Overall strength: If you do successfully complete the comp, how does it match up against other comps, especially those most prevalent in the meta?
- Flexibility: Can you make tweaks and adjustments to the comp while events unfold differently in game? These events include item luck, roll luck, and enemy units.
The combination of these three factors allows us to define team compositions as S, A, or B. The ones that have all three will lean toward S, those that are pretty good but may be lacking in some areas will lean towards B.
